Partners in Health – Rwanda

To grow up in Long Island, New York and spend many of my summers at sleepaway camp was an absolute privilege. By the time I was 16, I started getting this uneasy feeling in my stomache: I felt that I have at that point in my life I had been pointed away from most of reality. My family and I decided to try and find an experience for students that will raise their awareness of the global world. After a few interviews with various programs I ended up enrolling in the Putney Student Travel program as a Student Public Health Researcher based in Rwanda. The program was a community based health and reconciliation program that consisted of shadowing and learning from doctors in Rwanda’s health care system. Additionally, parts of the program included participating in genocide reconciliation sessions and volunteering at orphanages for disabled children.
